In the heart of the Minho region, this unique and sumptuous 18th-century estate and Portuguese manor house is perfect for a slow-paced getaway for a large group or if you are looking for somewhere special to host a retreat.

Minho Manor boasts an extraordinary past from blue-blooded guests to gossip of pool parties galore - stories to enthral you during your stay! One of its former owners, the eccentric Englishman Lord Pitt-Millward filled it with paintings and 14 busts of fabled Frenchmen which are still in place today. The property has now been classified as a Monument of Public Interest and the noble floor of the original Baroque building, its art gallery and grand granite balcony, can be visited by guests.

Recent renovations have converted the old stable block into a contemporary guest house that accommodates up to 14 guests in 7-bedroom suites. An extra baby cot can be added to each of these rooms, on request. The social areas comprise a living room with a vaulted ceiling, fireplace and smart TV; a dining room enjoying views over a wood; and a fully equipped kitchen of 40 sq metres. There are two extra stand-alone studio apartments that sleep up to 3 adults or two adults and two children. 

A large outdoor swimming pool gazes across the Lima River Valley, whilst the historic grounds and part-woodland (36,000 sq metres) surrounding it, are made for exploring and include a children’s playground and a tennis court, an ornamental lake, and a vineyard of table grapes. There is also an indoor pool which is heated. 

Guests are welcome to help themselves from the organic vegetable garden/orchard and fresh eggs from the chicken coop and there are tables arranged for enjoying meals “al fresco” within the lush gardens. Or better still, you can ask the property manager to book a chef to cater for your stay. She is at hand to organize additional services to suit your group as well as other excursions outside the property.

Ponte de Lima named after its medieval bridge, is just 15 minutes’ drive away and its rich historical heritage makes for some enjoyable strolling around town. You can kayak on the Lima River or pay a round at the local golf course. On the coast, Viana do Castelo and its rugged beaches is popular with watersports lovers and going inland, the Parque Nacional de Peneda-Geres with its mountains, trails and waterfalls is a requisite visit. The Minho region’s most famous produce is the slightly effervescent “Vinho Verde”, young wines released 3-6 months after the grapes are harvested, which of course you must try.

WARNING NOTES: Minho Manor is a working farm with agricultural and poultry production plus 3 friendly resident dogs; the pool and ornamental lake are unfenced and there are some unprotected level drops around the property, young children need to be supervised. 

GUEST HOUSE

  • This part of the property features a 3-level tower comprising the living room (with Smart TV and fireplace), dining room and a modern/fully equipped kitchen of 40sq metres.
  • There are seven bedroom suites connected with by a corridor:

Suite 1 – 21 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 100x200 cms) & shower bathroom

Suite 2 – 16,5 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 90x200 cms) & shower bathroom

Suite 3 – 19,7 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 100x200 cms) & full bathroom

Suite 4 – 14,3 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 90x200 cms) & shower bathroom

Suite 5 – 21 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 90x200 cms) & shower bathroom

Suite 6 – 15 sq metres, with twin/double bedroom (2 beds size x 90x200 cms) & shower bathroom

Suite 7 – 13,3 sq metres, with double bedroom (size 160x200 cms) & full bathroom

 

STUDIOS 

  • Two stand-alone studio-apartments of 31 & 35 sq metres each features a twin/double bedroom space (2 beds of 90x200 cms), living area with sofa-bed, shower bathroom & kitchenette

 

  • A total of 8 bedrooms in the Guest House/Studios can be made-up as twin/double beds on request
  • All the suites in the Guest House can accommodate an extra infant (up to 3 years old) sleeping in a cot; the Studios can accommodate an extra 1 adult or 2 children (age 4-12 years) sleeping on a sofa-bed
  • High quality bedroom & bathroom linen provided for the requisite number of guests changed every week (bedroom linen) & every 3 days (bathroom towels); luxury bathroom products provided as well as hairdryers
  • Baby equipment such as cots, highchairs plus cutlery/crockery are available on request
  • The Guest House has a modern kitchen of 40 sq metres equipped with an induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, toaster, kettle, blender, washing machine & dryer; the Studios are each equipped with an induction hob, microwave oven, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and washing machine
  • Smart TV & Bluetooth Speakers; Wifi provided throughout
  • Air conditioning (individually controlled) is available throughout

  • The Property Manager will help organize any extra services you wish to book for your stay, as well as check-in & check-out
  • Housekeeping is included 2 hours during weekdays (full cleaning service once a week for stays longer than 7 nights)
  • Grounds & pool maintenance included; being a working estate, the property is staffed from 08:00 to 18:00 hours

Guest house with shared grounds (max 14 guests) @ €10,000 p/week

Each studio (3 adults or 2 adults/2 children each) with shared grounds @ €1,600 p/week

November – March (minimum 2-night stays)

Exclusive use of guest house, 2 studios & grounds (max 20 adults) @ €4,000 p/2 nights

Guest house with shared grounds (max 14 guests) @ €3,000 p/2 nights

Each studio (3 adults or 2 adults/2 children each) with shared grounds @ €500 p/2 nights

  • Minimum 7 nights rental applies during the High Season (April – October & Christmas/NYE) and 2 nights during the Low Season (November – March); flexible change over days
  • Check-in after 15:00 hours; check-out before 11:00 hours
  • No parties for more than full capacity, no pets & strictly no smoking indoors (penalty equal to security deposit)
  • Extra services are subject to availability and should be booked well in advance especially in high season; no credit cards accepted locally, only cash
  • Non-refundable rental deposit of 50% required to reserve the property
  • The rental balance is due 31 days prior to start date of rental, not refundable after this date
  • Security deposit of  €1,500 for the Guest House & €500 for each Studio, to be paid in advance of rental - this amount minus any applicable charges is refundable at the end of the holiday
