Dramatically hanging over the Douro River this converted train station dates to the 1800’s. It has been recently renovated to offer Old World charm with contemporary interiors and modern amenities. The villa is fully serviced and perfect for incredible get-togethers. Breakfast is included every day and other meals can be catered for on request. A Concierge Service is also available to help organize any extras a special event.

As the name implies, villa River View enjoys wonderful 180º views of the Douro River and surrounding landscape – from its terraces you can enjoy the boats going up and down or just take in the ever-changing Douro colours that go from deep greens in the Spring to a particularly beautiful reddish gold in the autumn. Lucky guests at this Douro villa might even be able to spot a family griffon vultures soaring in the sky above it or river otters playing by the waterside!

The property is divided into 2 levels (each with 300 sq metres) with 8-bedroom suites on the top floor; whilst downstairs, the different living areas blend into one large open space with a winter garden and wide panoramic windows sliding open onto the pool terrace. Independent accommodation for 2 extra guests (suitable for personal staff) is available on request. There is air conditioning if required and particularly welcoming for cooler days, an open fireplace.

River View is located just up-river from Pinhao near Alijó, at the centre of the Unesco Alto Douro Wine Region. Although the arrival by car is very scenic, we also recommend the private boat service from Pinhao harbour to the villa’s pier, with a glass of port in hand enjoying river scenes and vineyards vistas along the way, at least once during your stay. Another must do when in the region, is a Douro Line train ride, which for most of its picturesque route goes along the river – the line goes past the villa and the nearest station is just a 10 minutes drive away.

Other recommendations for best enjoying what the great Douro region has to offer is hiking with a picnic, river boat trips or speed boat activities, vineyard visits and wine tasting, which can be organized as required by the villa management/concierge team.

Due to various unprotected drops from terraces as well as the pool surround, children under the age of 7 need to be supervised and are only accepted with a signed disclaimer.
