“With its combination of privacy, space and hotel-style services, Lagoa Villas offers an ideal base for discovering the natural beauty, volcanic landscapes and distinctive character of São Miguel Island.”
Located on a peaceful region of São Miguel Island, Lagoa Villas is a small estate of five luxurious four-bedroom villas, which can be rented individually for a family or together for larger groups wanting to travel together, while retaining their own space and independence.
Each terraced villa is fully self-contained and private. Designed for comfort and easy living, the contemporary interiors of approximately 200 sq metres open onto a generous outdoor living space, and the secluded garden encompasses a swimming pool and jacuzzi. A range of additional concierge and hospitality services can be arranged during your stay, including breakfast basket delivery, pre-arrival villa provisions, private chef experiences, wellness treatments, transfers, private tours and restaurant reservations.
An excellent base from which to explore the island, Lagoa is a small and attractive coastal town just 10 - 15 minutes east of Ponta Delgada, the capital of São Miguel. Sitting on the south coast, it has a distinctly local feel, combining small ocean harbours, volcanic rock swimming pools and lush green hills. One of its loveliest features is the seafront promenade, which stretches along the coast towards Portinho de São Pedro, offering beautiful views across the town and the south coast. Along the way, a natural swimming area provides facilities including showers, parking, a bar and restaurant.
Known as the “Green Island” for its lush, verdant landscapes, São Miguel is the largest island in the Azores archipelago and offers an extraordinary variety of experiences. Explore scenic nature trails, crater lakes and waterfalls, dormant volcanoes and dramatic calderas, volcanic beaches and historic towns and villages.
The capital, Ponta Delgada, is just a few kilometres away, with its 18th-century City Gates, Gothic St Sebastian Church and 16th-century Fort of São Brás. The airport is also a short drive from Lagoa, with regular connections to the other islands of the Azores as mainland Portugal. There are also direct international flights to destinations including the UK, USA and Canada, while inter-island ferries make exploring the archipelago easy.
To the northwest, one of São Miguel’s unmissable sights is the village of Sete Cidades and its spectacular twin crater lakes, Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul. To the east, the volcanic landscape of Furnas offers the chance to soak in naturally heated thermal waters, surrounded by lush vegetation. High in the mountains, Lagoa do Fogo is the island’s highest crater lake and one of its most breathtaking landscapes, while the small coastal town of Vila Franca do Campo is home to a historic fortress and the famous islet just offshore.
