The mountain range of Sintra has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 due to its outstanding natural beauty and historic interest. Peppered with extravagant palaces and opulent mansions, the ruins of the Castelo dos Mouros and the Palacio de Monserrate are a must-visit for anyone staying in the area.
